Developers in Middle East and Africa to compete for $20,000 in Facebook Bots for Messenger Challenge
Facebook just launched the Facebook Bots for Messenger Challenge, a contest to recognize and reward developers who are able to create the most innovative new bots on Messenger. From today, 15th February 2016, Facebook will accept applications for its Bots for Messenger Developer Challenge until 28th April, 2017. Over 20,000 USD cash prizes are expected to be won by s developers across the Middle East and Africa region who will be successful in creating innovative bots in the Bots for Messenger Developer Challenge. The contest is designed in three categories: Gaming and Entertainment; Productivity and Utility; and Social Good. Applicants (Developers) in teams (maximum of three) are invited from the Middle East and Africa region to create bots in these categories.

No one thinks that he would live enough to see when our peace-makers turn in to trouble-makers. The upper house of parliament, has no longer most privileged members, or engaged in its hot debates on issues affecting the lives of ordinary citizens. It’s effective, peace-making dispatches to remote hinterlands are not visible in the headlines, despite of recurring inter-clan hostilities. If they were once the symbol of security, consensus, and the glue that holds Somaliland together, today the reality tells you a different story.
Strong El Niño weather event that ended only last year and poor erratic rainfall in recent months is driving food prices high causing food insecurity in East Africa region. Local prices of maize, sorghum and other cereals are near or at record levels in swathes of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania, according to the latest Food Price Monitoring and Analysis Bulletin (FPMA). Prices of staple cereals have doubled in some town markets within the region. According to FAO senior economist and coordinator of the Global Information and Early Warning System, Mario Zappacosta, “Sharply increasing prices are severely constraining food access for large numbers of households with alarming consequences in terms of food insecurity.”
