The United Nations Convention on Transparency in Treaty-based Investor-State Arbitration enters into force today
The United Nations Convention in Transparency in Treaty-based Investor-State Arbitration (“The Mauritius Convention on Transparency”) will enter into force today, 18 October 2017. The Convention has to date been ratified by Canada, Mauritius and Switzerland. None of the ratifying States made reservations and, as a result, the Transparency Rules are now part of the investor-State dispute settlement regime created by investment treaties concluded by those three States. Consequently, the Transparency Rules will apply to investor-State disputes arising under investment treaties concluded by those States before April 2014 in accordance with the conditions set forth in the Transparency Convention and the relevant investment treaties.
Germany Africa Business Forum Launches Munich Event Supported by HypoVereinsbank and State of Bavaria
Munich, September 6, 2017 — The Germany Africa Business Forum (GABF) announces it will host a special conference on November 28, 2017 in Munich. Supported by HypoVereinsbank (UniCredit Bank AG) and endorsed by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, GABF Munich will unite two ideal trade partners – Bavaria and the continent of Africa. Fifty years ago, Bavaria was a heavily agricultural economy and today it is a thriving high-tech hub. Sub-Saharan Africa, where agriculture still dominates many economies, is undergoing a tech renaissance today not unlike what Bavaria experienced decades ago.
Dr Bernhard Rabert, Regional Director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland of Rolls-Royce, on Monday met with Minister-Plenipotentiary Adv Cassimjee and discussed the excellent working relationship between South Africa and Rolls-Royce. South Africa serves as the regional Southern African hub to Rolls-Royce, which is only one of the 600 German companies operational in South Africa. The South African Embassy is continuously working to enhance the good working relationship established with the German private sector.
First Ever Germany-Africa Business Forum Urges German Companies to Trust in African Investment Potential
At the first ever Germany-Africa Business Forum, held March 23 at the Adlon Kempinski in Berlin, participants urged the German business community to intensify investments in the African continent. Highlighting Africa’s need for capital, machinery, technology and skills, speakers said German businesses were well positioned to add greater value.
This year’s Consultations on Development Cooperation took place on the 7 and 8 of February in Windhoek. During the consultations, both parties confirmed the three focal areas of the joint cooperation: management of natural resources, sustainable economic development and transport. Among further fields of cooperation outside the focal areas, that were discussed during the consultations, are water, energy and sports. The main goal of German-Namibian development cooperation remains the fight against poverty and inequality in Namibia.
