The announcement was made by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA). The PPAs relate to 26 renewable energy projects, of which 12 totalling 813 MW are for large-scale PV plants selected in round 4 of the REIPPPP program.
Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to Henri Fraise Fils & Cie, a Malagasy energy company, for the development and implementation of minigrids in Madagascar, where only 15 percent of the population has electricity access. The grant supports the technical and economic study of solar photovoltaic (PV) powered minigrids with integrated battery storage technology at up to 100 sites, as well as a pilot to demonstrate the minigrid solution.
The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) has shortlisted 5 consortia to bid for the phase 1 of the 800 MW Noor Midelt solar power complex. Noor Midelt is the first complex that specifies hybrid plants including both CSP and PV. Total capacity is expected to reach 400 MW, of which 150 to 190 MW would be provided by CSP with with minimum of 5 hours storage.
