Harper Government boosts food production and economic growth in Africa / Parliamentary Secretary Pierre Lemieux highlights Earth Day

OTTAWA, Canada, April 22, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ African households will be better able to increase their food production and incomes as they improve their ability to adapt to the impacts of deforestation and the effects of weather on food security and livelihoods. Today, in recognition of Earth Day, Pierre Lemieux, MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, announced an agro-forestry initiative that will improve food production, reduce poverty and help African families adapt to weather-related challenges in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Managing Director to review Senegal-World Bank partnership

WASHINGTON, December 10, 2012 – Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Managing Director of the World Bank, will visit the Republic of Senegal from 11 to 12 December. The main objective of her visit would be two-fold: (i) meet and listen to key decision makers and other stakeholders on the country’s priorities, (ii) reiterate the World Bank Group support to Senegal as the country aspires to become a high-income country by the next decade. The government and its people have recently completed a national strategy for social and economic development. In support, the World Bank has just completed a highly consultative preparation of its Country Partnership strategy that is aligned with the national strategy. read more
