South Africa: Business Opportunities in the Energy Sector Workshop for Women



The Department of Energy (DoE) seeks to encourage women to participate in the energy sector as entrepreneurs, investors and professionals and leaders within the energy field. A workshop covering topics such as Oil, Gas, Electricity, Generation, Distribution, Retail and Renewables, will be held in Kimberley on the 23rd & 24th of June 2015 at the Protea Hotel in Kimberley. The workshop addresses the issues of policy and access to finance, the business opportunities offered by different industries and the opportunity to meet and discuss with energy companies representatives.

The Workshop will run two (2) days, divided into sessions dealing with government support through empowering policies, opportunities in the electricity and liquid fuels sector, business enterprise development and how to access finance. These topics will cover the value chain of each industry sector and business association. Main companies operating in the sector and government departments and entities have been invited to make presentations and interact with delegates.

Purpose of the workshop…

The workshop intends to provide information on the business opportunities in the energy sector across the value chain. It seeks to encourage professionals to invest into the sector through such organisations as WOESA and to take active interest in the sector and provide information on opportunities to women who want to own, control and develop their businesses in the energy sector.

Information on the nature of business, full value chain, opportunities available, assistance and enterprise development and education on legislative requirements and support for women in energy will be provided.

Who Should Attend

Women operating as investor, focusing on securing equity stake in the energy business, and those who want to own control and operate energy businesses.

Who is Participating?

The Department has secured speakers, session chairs and presenters from oil companies, financial institutions, national and provincial government departments and government agencies, energy associations and private sector investors who have been successful in the sector.
