Nigeria’s construction industry was the focus of the September preview for the sixth edition of Big 5 Construct Nigeria in Lagos, bringing local and international suppliers together at a time of continued investment in infrastructure, housing and domestic building-material production.

The event was scheduled for 22 to 24 September 2026 at the Landmark Centre in Lagos and organisers expected more than 10,000 construction professionals. Their pre-event announcement listed more than 170 exhibitors representing around 20 countries, alongside more than 30 CPD-certified industry sessions.

Contractors, developers, architects, engineers, consultants and other decision-makers were expected to attend the three-day exhibition, which covers areas including concrete and cement, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, construction equipment, interiors and finishes, digital construction technologies, steel and aluminium systems, modular construction, and windows, doors and façades.

Construction investment remains a key driver

The event comes as Nigeria continues to invest in transport, housing, energy and industrial infrastructure.

Research published by GlobalData through ResearchAndMarkets in 2026 forecasts continued expansion in Nigeria’s construction industry, supported by investment in major transport, energy, residential and industrial projects.

The country’s infrastructure pipeline includes major road and transport schemes, housing developments and energy projects intended to improve connectivity and support economic activity.

Nigeria is also seeking to strengthen its domestic construction supply chain through greater local production of building materials.

The Federal Government has been developing plans for Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs across the country’s geopolitical zones, with the aim of increasing domestic manufacturing capacity, strengthening supply chains, reducing dependence on imports and improving the availability of construction materials.

The initiative is expected to cover materials such as cement, steel, roofing products, tiles, paints, glass and other inputs required by Nigeria’s expanding construction sector.

International suppliers target Nigerian demand

The organisers positioned the 2026 edition of Big 5 Construct Nigeria as a platform connecting growing demand in Nigeria with domestic and international manufacturers, suppliers and construction technology companies.

More than 170 exhibitors from around 20 countries were announced as participants, showcasing products and solutions across building interiors and finishes, concrete and cement, construction tools and personal protective equipment, digital construction technologies, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, heavy construction equipment, marble and stone, metal, steel and aluminium systems, modular construction, urban design and landscaping, as well as windows, doors and façades.

Companies highlighted by the organisers include international and Nigerian businesses operating across construction materials, chemicals, engineering, equipment and building systems.

“Nigeria’s construction sector is witnessing an important period of growth, with continued investment creating demand for new products, expertise and capabilities across the value chain.”

Josine Heijmans, Senior Vice President at dmg events, said Big 5 Construct Nigeria provides an opportunity to connect companies and authorities involved in the country’s construction growth with an international network of suppliers and industry leaders.

The organisers say the event is intended to support knowledge exchange, commercial partnerships and access to technologies that can contribute to Nigeria’s construction ambitions.

Digital construction and sustainability on the agenda

Alongside the exhibition, the Big 5 Talks programme was scheduled to focus on practical challenges facing Nigeria’s construction industry, including project delivery, cost management, digital transformation, architecture, sustainable building practices and commercial performance.

More than 30 CPD-certified sessions were announced across the three-day programme.

Topics include advanced project delivery strategies for high-risk environments, project governance, construction risk management, digital project controls and the use of real-time data to improve cost visibility and project performance.

Digital transformation also featured in the announced programme, including discussions around Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the gradual introduction of digital workflows into construction organisations and projects.

For construction businesses, BIM and other digital tools can improve coordination between project participants, reduce information gaps, strengthen cost control and support faster decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Green buildings move further into the business agenda

Sustainability was another major part of the announced programme as developers, contractors and investors pay greater attention to the lifecycle costs and environmental performance of buildings.

Sessions were scheduled to examine sustainable materials, façades and the business case for green buildings, including potential operational savings, asset value and the relationship between sustainability and investment decisions.

This reflects a wider shift in African construction markets, where sustainability is increasingly being considered alongside affordability, project delivery and commercial performance rather than as a separate environmental issue.

Nigeria’s construction supply chain opportunity

The combination of infrastructure investment, urbanisation, housing demand and efforts to increase local manufacturing creates opportunities across Nigeria’s construction value chain.

For international suppliers, the market offers demand for construction equipment, specialised materials, engineering technologies, digital systems and project expertise.

For Nigerian businesses, expanding domestic manufacturing could create opportunities in building materials production, distribution, construction services, logistics and technology.

Greater domestic production may also help reduce exposure to imported material costs and currency fluctuations, although achieving that objective will depend on investment, energy availability, logistics, access to finance and the competitiveness of local manufacturers.

Events such as Big 5 Construct Nigeria therefore increasingly serve not only as product exhibitions but also as meeting points between manufacturers, contractors, developers, investors and policymakers involved in the development of Nigeria’s built environment.
