Solution includes portfolio of intelligent Ethernet switches designed to reduce installation costs and improve operations through automation
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Oct. , 2012 – Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) today introduced an Ethernet-based physical security network solution designed to help reduce installation, operational costs and truck rolls, and simplify operations associated with networked physical security systems, including integrated alarms, IP surveillance cameras, door locks and related elements.
Extreme Networks physical security network solution, delivered in conjunction with top-tier technology partners, supports surveillance and perimeter security, intelligent buildings, traffic cameras, equipment alarms, and tracking. Software intelligence embedded in the ExtremeXOS® operating system (OS) automates tasks including camera and device discovery, configuration, authentication, power management via Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+), and network policy assignment to provide superior network availability and resiliency.
The solution helps reduce installation and maintenance time in order to keep the network secure and available. Switches can be configured at a granular level to support specific devices, such as a single model of surveillance camera. The camera can then be authenticated on the network and assigned to a dedicated security network with the benefit of reducing interference from other devices and services.
According to a recent Frost & Sullivan report, “Global Physical Security Information Management Market,” the overall physical security market is expected to reach $2.79 billion by 2021. Sophisticated and reliable networks will play a critical role in this growth as bandwidth intensive, high-resolution video is deployed to secure assets and people and meet user expectations for high quality video images.
“Extreme Networks has an important emphasis on the operational efficiencies and network reliability features that can further the adoption of more effective physical security through IP-based, digital devices,” said Vince Ricco, business development manager, Technology Partner Program, Axis Communications, Inc. “With the surveillance market in the midst of a major shift from analog CCTV to IP video, it is great to see a vendor focus on software intelligence to prioritize the integration and traffic of physical security devices. Physical security is moving onto the network, and a rock solid infrastructure is crucial for quality and reliability.”
“Milestone Systems is very pleased to partner with Extreme Networks for video management solutions,” said Reinier Tuinzing, Strategic Alliances Manager, Milestone Americas. “Network optimization, management and control are critical for reliable operation of video management installations. With the introduction of the Summit switches, Extreme Networks continues to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the needs for the video management market.”
“As the industry moves toward more sophisticated and integrated physical security systems, there is growing customer demand for Ethernet-based networking solutions that provide improved port access security, capacity and Power over Ethernet (PoE+) to centralize control and management across multiple security devices,” said Bill Murphy, director of marketing for Extreme Networks. “Our solution capabilities reduce expensive truck rolls, which can cost up to $1,500 each time personnel are deployed to repair or diagnose a faulty device and this makes a big difference.”
Extreme Networks physical security solution includes its Summit® X440, Summit X460, and Summit X670 switches, all powered by the ExtremeXOS® modular OS. Summit switches support PoE+ with a large of range of power supply options which means more devices per switch. Using Extreme Networks physical security network solution, companies can make faster installs, reduce truck rolls and change-outs, and increase security on port access with greater device and user visibility. The solution provides maximum loads on switches and offers improved speed, performance, and reliability.
